Portraits of Jamie Hale

Earlier this year I spent a wonderful day taking portraits of Jamie Hale. They’re a multidisciplinary artist who works as a curator, poet, writer, screenwriter, playwright, actor, facilitator, trainer and director. Jamie currently has a screenplay in development with Channel 4 and last year they won the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund Award in Directing/Theatre-Making. Jamie said of the experience, “Where other photographs seem to catch my flaws and amplify them, Holly’s work brought out a sense of beauty that wasn’t reliant on external ideals, but was the amplification of what is truly and uniquely mine about my body and existence. These photos give me a sense of confidence in my place in the world, and show me as I would like to hope others see me, rather than the critical ways in which I see myself.”
